The State of Texas Top Legal Officer Sues Acetaminophen Manufacturers Regarding Autism Spectrum Allegations

Courtroom Action
The Texas Attorney General, a Trump ally campaigning for the United States Senate, claimed pharmaceutical manufacturers of concealing potential dangers of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the makers of Tylenol, alleging the firms concealed alleged dangers that the medication created to children's neurological development.

This legal action comes a month after Former President Trump publicized an unproven link between taking acetaminophen - also known as paracetamol - during pregnancy and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

The attorney general is filing suit against J&J, which once produced the medication, the exclusive pain medication suggested for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which presently makes it.

In a official comment, he said they "betrayed America by gaining financially from discomfort and promoting medication without regard for the potential hazards."

The manufacturer says there is insufficient reliable data tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These manufacturers deceived for years, intentionally threatening countless individuals to boost earnings," Paxton, from the Republican party, declared.

The company commented that it was "deeply concerned by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of paracetamol and the likely effects that could have on the welfare of women and children in America."

On its website, the company also stated it had "continuously evaluated the relevant science and there is insufficient valid information that demonstrates a established connection between consuming acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations representing physicians and health professionals agree.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has stated acetaminophen - the primary component in acetaminophen - is a restricted selection for expectant mothers to address discomfort and fever, which can create serious health risks if ignored.

"In over twenty years of research on the utilization of paracetamol in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has successfully concluded that the consumption of paracetamol in any trimester of gestation results in brain development issues in children," the association said.

The court filing cites current declarations from the Trump administration in asserting the medication is allegedly unsafe.

Last month, the former president caused concern from public health officials when he advised pregnant women to "resist strongly" not to take acetaminophen when ill.

The US Food and Drug Administration then released a statement that doctors should contemplate reducing the usage of Tylenol, while also stating that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism in young ones has not been proven.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who oversees the FDA, had promised in spring to undertake "extensive scientific investigation" that would determine the source of autism spectrum disorder in a limited time.

But authorities warned that finding a sole reason of autism - considered by experts to be the outcome of a complex mix of genetic and environmental factors - would prove challenging.

Autism is a form of permanent neurological difference and impairment that influences how people perceive and interact with the surroundings, and is identified using medical professional evaluations.

In his legal document, the attorney general - a Trump ally who is seeking federal office - claims the manufacturer and Johnson & Johnson "deliberately disregarded and tried to quiet the research" around acetaminophen and autism.

This legal action attempts to require the corporations "remove any promotional materials" that claims Tylenol is safe for expectant mothers.

This legal action mirrors the concerns of a group of guardians of children with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who took legal action against the makers of Tylenol in two years ago.

The court rejected the lawsuit, saying studies from the family's specialists was not conclusive.
