Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.
The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton Town manager - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is considered a strong contender for the position.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of appointing a new manager.
O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United midfielder is out of work meaning Wolves would not need to pay any buyout fee.
