LA Explodes in Jubilation as Dodgers Claim Second World Series Victory
The City of Angels witnessed citywide festivities after the Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-match World Series championship. Fans worldwide united with Angelenos in celebration, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a team has achieved back-to-back championships.
Victory Parade Draws Massive Crowds
Local events featured a downtown parade on Monday morning, a reserved-seating event at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Online footage show thousands of Los Angeles residents flooding city center avenues, many carrying handmade banners and team flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the masses, raising the championship trophy proudly.
“My focus is already about the third time we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at the stadium, where the players walked out to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with the renowned DJ spinning music and Ice Cube driving a light blue classic car around the field.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Athlete Responses
Festivities started prior to the parade, with supporters lighting flares in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the MVP of the championship, commented plainly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” he stated. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and Community Spirit
In contrast, the team owner received a cooler reception at the rally. Video footage from the event appear to show Walter taking the stage to a combination of cheers and boos, with negative shouts interrupting his address.
The World Series acted as a bright spot in what has been a challenging year for the city. An approximate 225,000 people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to team member one athlete, supporters this year demonstrated equal or greater support.
“It seems it’s nearly twice from last year,” Freeman said. “The supporters are incredible. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
