Bullish Nancy shows no fear of being fired but the Parkhead faithful unleash anger after loss.
The under-pressure manager stated he was not afraid of losing his job, maintaining, “The team is very near to changing our fortunes,” even after edging perilously close to the exit with a convincing defeat by their arch-rivals.
A Second-Half Capitulation Sees Old Firm Disaster
The home side were ahead their oldest rivals at the interval but a collapse after the break allowed Rangers to draw level on points with the current Scottish Premiership champions. The former MLS manager, who was hired in December, has now overseen six defeats in eight fixtures.
“We are together with the board,” said Nancy.
Pressed on whether he was concerned, he replied: “That’s not my focus. I think about discovering solutions to help my team to excel on the fine details.
Fan Fury On Display
The fans voiced their fury – directed at the hierarchy – by gathering at full time. The board are thought to be considering to bring back the former boss, who steered the club during a temporary stint before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. So this is the truth for the moment. But in stating that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am giving up. Not at all. The message is the turnaround is near, extremely close to turn things around.”
“Really, Really Close”
He continues to cling to the fact the side show good levels for one half at a time. Indeed, were it not for wastefulness in front of goal they would have been better than 1-0 up. “There were positives except the fact that we didn't take a second goal,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but it's important to stay fair.
“The standard we had at stages was exceptionally high. This is the reality. And I would not speak so positively if it was different. Therefore, regarding outcomes, I said it's a repeating pattern. Which is why I feel we are really close to things turning around. But for the moment: small things.”
“I saw plenty of positives that we did, like today again. But now it’s about consistency. My outlook would be different if it was not the case. This is why I am a big believer the team can to turn things around.”
Röhl’s Cautious Outlook
Danny Röhl played down talk of a championship push in spite of what felt like a huge result. “We take it game by game, then we can really build up momentum,” he said. “The faith in the squad is immense.”
